Day 29 Monday June 5 Grasmere - Glasgow

Rainy start to the day in Grasmere - first real day of rain we've had and first day not hiking
And the rain continued on the train
Changing trains in Oxenholme - love the way dogs are welcomed just about everywhere here
On the way to Glasgow!
Arriving in Glasgow train station
Here's one for Malcolm
And one for the proofreders in the crowd
Another Newton kind of  day... Also Newton Terrace, Newton Place...
A stroll around the Kelvingrove Art Gallery - better weather in Glasgow, at least until the rain moved in around 10pm
Through Kelvingrove Park - dogs in all directions and none of them on leashes
Out for an Indian dinner and the biggest naan bread in the world - it's hanging on its own stand

Flying back to Ottawa and St John's first thing in the morning - sad to see a great trip over.  Too early to start thinking about the next one??

Day 28 Sunday June 4 Grasmere - Rydal

It was a blustery start to the day, so we decided to do a hike around Grasmere Lake - flat, good footing and not too far in case the weather turned rainy.  You're not seeing Sandy in these photos because she's on the second day of her watercolour course.
Foxgloves - so much like Beatrix Potter
First view of Grasmere lake
Old boathouse on the shore
Through a wooded section - the path was mostly wide and flat, so there were lots of hikers, cyclists, dogs, children...
And ducks and geese and swans.  And deer (but not in this picture)

The end of Grasmere lake, from a terrace above the lake
Cyclists on the path
Lunch with the ducks
The weather improved, so we continued the hike by walking around the next lake south of Grasmere, Rydal lake
Uh... Why do you suppose they call it that??
Into the village of Rydal
The Church of St Mary's in Rydal
Back down to Rydal lake

Last view of Rydal lake, behind the remains of a barn
Coming back in to Grasmere - near Dove Cottage, one of Wordsworth's homes in the area.

Tomorrow we leave the Lake District and take the train to Glasgow. Then home on Tuesday morning

Day 27 Saturday June 3 Grasmere - Easedale Tarn hike

Setting off from town this morning to hike up to a mountain lake, Easedale Tarn
Through a valley on a stone path
Looks old, but the bridge was built in 1999
A few big grey clouds, but they kept going the other direction
The path follows a series of waterfalls up to the tarn
The path was rocky, but the footing was good and the climb gradual
Lots of other hikers out today, families, small children, dogs...
First view of the tarn, after about 3.5 k hike
Other paths went off from here, but we had lunch and started back down
Other hikers heading back down the other side of the waterfall and into the next valley
Views on the trip back down
Lots of rock walls and pens for the sheep
The weather cleared up again by late afternoon - this is a view from the front of our B&B
Late afternoon sun on the hills

We're in the land of Beatrix Potter
